Our History

James Cuming joined the firm in 1995 and became a Managing Partner in 2000. Craig Gillespie joined the firm as an Associate in 2000 and subsequently joined James as a Managing Partner in 2007.  It is under this partnership that Cuming & Gillespie grew to be a premier boutique firm in Western Canada in the areas of catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice and class action law.

The firm is now made up of four lawyers, including:

All four lawyers practice exclusively in the area of acting for Plaintiffs in civil litigation matters, including: Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, and Class Actions.

As a boutique firm, Cuming & Gillespie has acted as counsel in the first Class Action lawsuit certified in Alberta and the first National Class Action lawsuit successfully resolved in Alberta. The firm has seen success both inside the courtroom (having obtained a trial judgment exceeding $1.5 million on a personal injury claim) and outside the courtroom (having achieved numerous multi-million dollar settlements). Since 2007, Cuming & Gillespie has collectively recovered over $150 million in compensation for our clients.

We are all extremely proud to be a part of the firm and continue to strive on a day-to-day basis to maintain and elevate the standard of work we do and the reputation of the firm as a whole.
