The law firm of Cuming Gillespie & Raymaker has filed a lawsuit against AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals PLC, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP and AstraZeneca Canada Inc. in March, 2006 in Alberta and British Columbia, on behalf of a class of persons who have ingested a drug called Seroquel.
Seroquel is an "anti-psychotic" medicine, belonging to a class of drugs referred to as "atypical anti-psychotics" or "psychotropics", also known as quetiapine fumarate which is prescribed to combat schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders.
Seroquel was approved in Canada in 1997. Seroquel was marketed heavily as a safe and effective treatment of schizophrenia, promising fewer side effects than other similar treatments including the other atypical anti-psychotic drugs on the market.
Seroquel causes serious and sometimes fatal injuries to the liver, kidneys and pancreas. Its adverse effects include, but are not limited to, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus and weight gain. Other serious injuries include a potentially fatal condition referred to as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), tardive dyskinesia, which can cause potentially irreversible, involuntary movements and other serious health problems associated with the onset of diabetes including heart disease, blindness, coma, seizures and death.
If you or your family member(s) has/have suffered serious side effects after using Seroquel, you or the family member(s) may be eligible to file a claim against the drug manufacturer.
