In case any further evidence was needed that drinking and driving is a dangerous combination, alcohol is being considered a possible factor in a recent Didsbury car accident that resulted in multiple life-threatening injuries.

Two women were transported via a STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital after their car ran into a pickup truck that is reported to have crossed through a stop sign without so much as slowing down. The current condition of the women is unknown, however Disbury RCMP did not rule out the possibility that the accident could prove fatal.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred at the intersection of Westcott Road and Highway 2A; the pickup truck was traveling east along Westcott when it failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by the northbound car containing the two female injury victims. According to a witness who was also driving northbound on Highway 2A at the time, both vehicles involved in the collision became airborne and landed in the ditch on the side of Highway 2A.

“I noticed a white truck driving very fast on Westcott, eastbound. I started slowing down as I doubted he would make that stop sign in time,” said the witness. “His vehicle didn’t slow down at all, blew through the stop sign and hit a red car travelling north on the 2A. I hit the brakes in time to stay out of the collision, but the driver of the car likely didn’t even see him coming and had no time to react.”
