The Calgary Police Service are reporting a belief that alcohol and excessive speed were both factors in a serious accident that took place shortly after 2:30am on Saturday, October 24th, leaving two drivers with minor injuries and a third at Foothills Hospital in life-threatening condition.

According to police and eyewitness reports, a Chevrolet Silverado collided with a taxi making a u-turn on Northmount Dr. N.W., pushing the taxi into oncoming traffic as it tried to turn around. The incident occurred only moments after witnesses had reported a pickup truck speeding along Northmount Dr. and running a red light, which it appears would have occurred at this intersection as well had the taxi and oncoming traffic not gotten in its way.

The driver of the Silverado, identified only as a man in his early twenties, had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Calgary Fire Department, and was immediately taken to Foothills Hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

The other two injured drivers suffered only minor injuries, and were presumably treated at the scene of the accident by Calgary EMS.
