Car accidents are a daily occurrence in and around Calgary. While many of the accidents that occur are minor, all too many are more significant and lead to serious injuries. As a personal injury law firm dedicated to helping injury victims and their families receive just compensation for the harm they’ve been caused, we here at Cuming & Gillespie LLP know all too well how disruptive and destructive these car accidents can be.
A recent tragic accident should be taken as a reminder to everyone in the Greater Calgary Area that we all need to use care when driving on our shared roads and highways. Personal injury lawyers may feel they have a special responsibility to their clients to ensure the best possible outcome after they’ve been injured, but we all have a responsibility to ourselves, our families, and each other to ensure we all get where we’re going in one piece.
Accident South of Calgary Causes Serious Injury and One Fatality
At approximately 7:15am on the morning of November 1st, three vehicles traveling northbound on Highway 2 were involved in a collision near the town of High River, roughly 70 kilometers south of Calgary. A grain truck, a sedan, and another passenger vehicle were involved in the accident, with no indication of what caused the accident or who may have been at fault. A sixty-year old woman was taken to Calgary Foothills Medical Centre for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and a forty-seven year old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle involved in this multi-car wreck was not injured.
Highway 2 was closed in both directions for more than six hours while the accident scene was investigated and cleared by RCMP, but of much greater consequence than this inconvenience is the loss of life that occurred and the potential for other more significant injuries to those involved in the accident. Again, it is not clear who or what caused the accident, but any collision involving a passenger vehicle and a heavier vehicle such as a grain truck or other type of tractor-trailer or cargo-laden vehicle carries a much greater risk of injury and death. Truck drivers and drivers sharing the road with these heavier vehicles need to exercise extreme caution to avoid tragic incidents like this.
