The driver and passenger of a late model sedan sustained serious injuries and were transported to Foothills Medical Centre following an accident at Spruce Meadows Trail and 24th Street S.W. in Calgary.
The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 20. According to one witness to the accident, the sedan stopped at a stop sign, then proceeded through the intersection without noticing the light-duty pickup heading through.
Calgary Police indicated that the accident looked like a T-bone collision, but could not confirm. The sedan was impacted with such force that it was pushed into a ditch adjacent to Spruce Meadows Trail, and the vehicle sustained damage that prevented both the driver and the passenger from exiting the vehicle.
Calgary EMS and the Calgary Fire Department were called to the scene, with the CFD using hydraulic equipment to extract the occupants from the sedan so both could be transported to hospital, one with reportedly life-threatening injuries.
