Cuming & Gillespie is proud to continue its support of the Foothills Hospital Brain Injury Patient Program.
When our office teamed up with the Calgary Health Trust to expand upon this program by funding positions filled by individuals who lead the program and coordinate the numerous volunteers, we were extremely proud to be involved in the program but did not necessarily appreciate the magnitude of the impact it would have, not only on patients, but on the volunteers and employees involved.
One such individual, who has volunteered countless hours of his time to work with patients who have recently suffered the same type of injury he is acutely familiar with, expressed his personal experience as follows:
“I work already for 2 years as a Brain Injury peer support Volunteer at the Foothills Hospital and have met so many great people (too many to thank all). This work gives me so much joy and inspiration. Looking forward to many more years. Seeing people learn to walk is as inspiring as learning to walk yourself again. I always say to new patients: “accept that it happened and see yourself getting better every day”, something easy said, but if it comes from someone that was in their shoes it is also easy to accept. I would like to thank you for making this possible.”
