Cuming & Gillespie's COVID-19 Statement - Read Post

Mike joined Cuming & Gillespie in 2016, following the completion of his articles and working as an associate at a Calgary insurance defence law firm.  His transition from Defence Counsel to Plaintiff’s Counsel in personal injury actions gives him added insight into the insurance industry and Defence Counsel tactics.

Mike obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2015.  During law school, Mike volunteered with Student Legal Assistance and was awarded Dean’s List status.   Mike also had the opportunity to complete a semester of law school on an academic exchange program, at the University of Amsterdam.

Prior to his legal studies, Mike completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, both in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  Mike’s scientific background is an asset in understanding complex medical issues in both personal injury and medical malpractice files.

Mike’s practice focuses on personal injury claims, arising out of motor vehicle accident claims, slip and falls, or other more unique situations.  He is also involved in medical malpractice and professional negligence claims.  Mike has experience appearing in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Provincial Court of Alberta.

Mike volunteers in his community with the Calgary Youth Justice Society, which provides an alternative measures program for youth offenders.  He has been involved with the Calgary Youth Justice Society since 2011.

Mike understands the devastation that a serious injury can have, including the significant impact on the surrounding family and friends.  In 2007, Mike’s father suffered a serious spinal injury, rendering him a quadriplegic.   As a result of Mike’s personal experience, he is compassionate, understanding and very knowledgeable with regards to the realities and disabilities that individuals with serious injuries encounter on a daily basis.

Outside of the office, Mike enjoys golfing, hockey and being active.
