Cuming & Gillespie LLP is proud to announce that two of its partners, Craig Gillespie and Maia Tomljanovic, will be included in the Lexpert Special Edition: Health Sciences for 2026.

The Lexpert Special Edition: Health Sciences highlights Lexpert-ranked lawyers and law firms advising Canada’s health sciences sector and offers commentary on the legal issues, innovation, regulatory change, and business risks affecting the industry.

Craig Gillespie: Lexpert Ranked for Medical Negligence, Personal Injury, and Class Actions

Craig Gillespie is a Lexpert-recognized lawyer in the areas of plaintiff-side Medical Negligence, plaintiff-side Personal Injury law, and Class Actions. He has represented clients across Alberta and Western Canada, appeared at all levels of court in Alberta, and obtained successful trial verdicts in a wide range of personal injury matters. Over the course of his career, he has recovered tens of millions of dollars for clients and represented individuals in many multi-million-dollar settlements.

Craig is a past President of the Alberta Trial Lawyers Association and the Canadian Bar Association Alberta South Injury Section. He regularly presents and instructs at trial advocacy, personal injury, medical malpractice, birth trauma, and medical malpractice seminars across Canada. He has been recognized for more than a decade by Lexpert and has been repeatedly recommended by Best Lawyers in Canada®, including recognition as a medical malpractice lawyer of the year.

Craig also contributes to the community through his work with MADD Calgary, the Calgary Health Trust Patient Experience Program, and the Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta. His practice is guided by a commitment to accountability, public safety, access to justice, and supporting those who have suffered serious personal injury.

Maia Tomljanovic: Lexpert Ranked for Medical Negligence and Personal Injury

Maia Tomljanovic is recognized by Lexpert for her work in plaintiff-side Medical Negligence, and Personal Injury law. She acts exclusively for injured parties and their families, not for insurers. She has appeared before various levels of court in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and her prior experience as a Judicial Clerk with the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta provides valuable insight into the court system.

Maia also has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, having participated in hundreds of private mediations and Judicial Dispute Resolution conferences. She is committed to supporting individuals and families affected by negligence and is known for her approachable, client-focused manner. She is also actively involved in protecting the rights of Albertans through her practice and her work with the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association.

Maia has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada since 2022. She gives back to the legal profession and broader community through volunteering with the Legal Education Society of Alberta, coaching CPLED students, serving with the CBA Health Law South Section and ACTLA, presenting at legal education seminars, guest lecturing at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, supporting fundraising initiatives, and providing pro bono legal services.
