She acts exclusively for injured individuals and their families, not insurers, and has appeared before multiple levels of court in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Her previous experience as a Judicial Clerk with the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta provides valuable insight into the court system, while her participation in hundreds of private mediations and Judicial Dispute Resolution conferences has given her extensive experience in dispute resolution.
Maia has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada™ since 2022. She is also actively involved in legal education and community service through the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association, and the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. Maia has helped raise significant funds for the Calgary Drug Treatment Court and The Women’s Centre. Mike Grassie joined Cuming & Gillespie LLP in 2016 after practicing as an associate at a Calgary insurance defence firm. His previous work as defence counsel provides valuable insight into insurance industry practices and litigation strategies. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada™ since 2026.
Mike’s practice focuses on personal injury claims arising from motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-falls, and other incidents, as well as class actions, medical malpractice, and professional negligence matters. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology assist him in understanding complex medical evidence. He appears regularly before the Alberta Court of King’s Bench and the Provincial Court of Alberta and has volunteered with the Calgary Youth Justice Society since 2011.
