Known for her approachable nature, Maia is deeply committed to advocating for those harmed by others’ negligence. Through her work, she strives to uphold and protect the rights of Albertans, both in her legal practice and through her involvement with the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA).
In addition to her legal work, Maia is dedicated to giving back to the legal community. She has volunteered with the Legal Education Society of Alberta, coached new articling students through CPLED, and served on the Executive of the CBA Health Law South Section and the Board of ACTLA. Mike joined Cuming & Gillespie LLP in 2016 after completing his articles and working as an associate at a Calgary insurance defence firm. His shift from defence to plaintiff-side personal injury litigation has provided him with valuable insight into insurance industry practices and defence strategies, which he now applies to advocate effectively for injured clients.
Before entering law, Mike earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This scientific training enhances his ability to understand and assess complex medical evidence, particularly in personal injury, medical malpractice, and professional negligence claims. His practice includes cases involving motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, and other serious and catastrophic injury-related matters.

Laura joined Cuming & Gillespie LLP in 2017 after being called to the Alberta Bar and became a partner in 2022. Her background in science, medicine, and law gives her a distinct advantage in handling complex personal injury cases, particularly those involving medical malpractice and catastrophic injuries. With advanced degrees in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Nursing, she brings a rare depth of insight to her legal practice.
Before becoming a lawyer, Laura worked as a registered nurse with Alberta Health Services in general medicine, community care, and mental health. This clinical experience allows her to understand her clients’ unique medical challenges. Combining compassion with technical knowledge, she helps clients navigate the legal system while addressing the broader personal and medical implications of their injuries.
